چکیده

An emerging object-based storage device (OSD) architecture facilitates the creation of self-managed, secure, and shared storage. Despite of its potential of greatly improving the scalability and performance of distributed storage systems, only high-end applications direct their attentions to OSD. Currently, it is necessary for mid/entry-levels applications to employ the OSD technology. In this paper, we present OASIS, a cluster file system using OSD, which is designed to combine the iSCSI protocol with OSD SCSI. Our experiments show that our system matches up to performance of existing systems and achieves linear scalability of performance as the number of clients increased.

Security Considerations When Designing a Distributed File System Using Object Storage Devices

We present the design goals that led us to developing a distributed object-based secure file system, Brave. Brave uses mutually authenticated object storage devices, SCARED, to store file system data. Rather than require a new authentication infrastructure, we show how we use a simple authentication protocol that is bridged into existing security infrastructures, even if there is more than one ...

OBFS: A File System for Object-Based Storage Devices

The object-based storage model, in which files are made up of one or more data objects stored on self-contained Object-Based Storage Devices (OSDs), is emerging as an architecture for distributed storage systems. The workload presented to the OSDs will be quite different from that of generalpurpose file systems, yet many distributed file systems employ general-purpose file systems as their unde...

Scalable Performance of the Panasas Parallel File System

The Panasas file system uses parallel and redundant access to object storage devices (OSDs), per-file RAID, distributed metadata management, consistent client caching, file locking services, and internal cluster management to provide a scalable, fault tolerant, high performance distributed file system. The clustered design of the storage system and the use of clientdriven RAID provide scalable ...

Employing Object-Based Storage Devices to Embed File Access Control in Storage

This paper presents a proposal to em bed the file access control into object-based storage devices (OSD) to achieve powerf ul storage security with rich semantics; and two application pr ototypes, the OSD-based intrusion detection ( ID) and the f iner-grained (than the f ile-level) acce ss control, are im plemented to show its feasibility. To embed file access control into st orage, one of vita...

BLESS: Object level encryption security for object-based storage system

In Object-Based Storage System (OBSS) there are hundreds even thousands of storage devices to store peta-byte scale of data. A considerable part of such data is sensitive and needs to be encrypted. While existing storage security schemes encrypt entire files to ensure security, it is often unnecessary to encrypt all areas within a file. Otherwise, the encryption of a large number of non-sensiti...
